ABSTRACT
This article introduces a series of articles based on the research "The Sustainability of Lean Transformation" conducted by the Lean Engineering Research Centre (LERC) of Cardiff Business School in Wales. The research investigates the main enablers and inhibitors to the sustainability of major lean transformations and develops an index for the measurement of employee engagement. The articles will include the following topics: the changing face of manufacturing; the state of lean manufacturing; and the importance of operational ownership.
