The article discusses the developments in the laser industry. It mentions that YAG-type lasers, which was developed in 1970s, are high in demand in numerous industries during 1990s. However, when the diode pumping technology improved and became more prevalent in the 1990s, diode-pumped lasers and fiber laser became popular because they offer maximum efficiency and available at different wavelengths. Applications of lasers are also discussed. Comparison between modern lasers are also presented.
