ABSTRACT
The article discusses the notion of safety culture in health care system in Saskatchewan. The issue existed when John Lewis, a father of an 8-year-old girl who died in 2000 due to mismanagement of fluids and electrolytes, started his campaign to have the hospital and health care providers responsible for their malpractice. Jonathan Aleck of Civil Aviation Safety Authority in Australia notes that the move is important but it should be accompanied by a regulatory system for its productiveness. Particular focus is given to Dr. Dennis Kendel, chief executive officer of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan, who comments on the slow progress of Canada in embracing information technology and electronic health records.
