ABSTRACT
The article suggests that size is a predictor of malignancy in melanocytic lesions of the iris, according to a presentation by Hans E. Grossniklaus at the 2008 American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting. It is noted that size greater than three clock hours is the finding that is most important in indicating malignant disease. Grossniklaus advised physicians to keep in mind that fine needle aspiration or biopsy specimens might not be representative of the lesion because epithelioid cells may reside in its base.
