ABSTRACT
The article recalls the events that transpired in Florida during the recount of votes in the U.S. presidential race between Texas Governor George W. Bush and Vice President Al Gore on November 7, 2000, according to some people familiar with the issue. Senior campaign spokesman Dan Bartlett describes the conversations he had with the media. James A. Baker III, who oversaw the recount for the Republicans, says people keep misinterpreting the Supreme Court ruling, calling it a five-to-four political decision, when it fact the ruling was seven to two.
