ABSTRACT
The article reports on the state of health information organizations' (HIOs) return on investment (ROI). The 2008 Fifth Annual Survey of Health Information Exchange at the State and Local Levels revealed positive return on investment from more than half of community-based HIOs. It cites that the development of a sustainable business model is the significant challenge in the study, followed by securing upfront funding.
