ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the 40th anniversary of the French Catholic daily newspaper "Devoir" in Canada in 1950. The daily is known for its forcefulness, independence and timeliness and its founder Henri Bourrass is said to be a man who influenced the political development of the country. The journalistic philosophy of the periodical is described by G�rard Filion in the February 11 issue. Also noted is the effort of "Devoir" to avail itself of the liberty recommended to the Catholic journalist by Pope Pius XII.
