The article discusses the uses of service-oriented architecture (SOA). It notes that Wall street firms use SOA internally to integrate applications, create employee portals that bridge and build Web sites for customers from in-house and third party providers. According to the author, the problem is that SOAs have complex and evolving set of protocols. With financial firms, SOA is being held back by competing standards and varying implementations.
