ABSTRACT
The article examines the trend among Australia-based motion picture producers to move into distribution. Centre for Screen Business director at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School David Court notes that the idea of "Japanese Story" producer Sue Maslin about producers becoming active rights managers resulted from the Producers Offset initiative of the government. John Maynard of ArenaFilm stresses that such trend will not pose a risk of creating a culture of dilettante distributors.
