ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the transformation of "The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce" from a documentary into a cinematic-quality television drama on ABC. Essential Media and Entertainment producer Nial Fulton initially saw the potential of the 180-year-old-story of the escaped cannibal convict Alexander Pearce in an Irish-Australian documentary co-production. Fulton contacted director Michael James Rowland and pitched the project, placing emphasis on the drama of Pearce's confession to the colony's Catholic priest after he was recaptured.
