ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the abstinence-only-until marriage (AOUM) program by the U.S. federal government as its primary approach to sex education. Since teenage sexual behavior increases the likelihood of unintended pregnancy, the AOUM programs promote abstinence from sexual activity and limit discussion of condoms and contraception. Nonetheless , medical organizations support comprehensive sex education that includes developmentally appropriate information on condoms and contraception.
