ABSTRACT
The article reports on efforts by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to notify some 7,000 facilities in late June 2008 regarding the possible high level of security risk posed by the use or storage of certain chemicals under the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) law. The facilities range from large refineries and chemical plants to agricultural and electronics manufacturing sites. All tiered facilities must submit a security vulnerability assessment (SVA) to DHS.
