ABSTRACT
The article reports on significant decreases in olefin prices due to weak demand and economic uncertainty. U.S. spot ethylene prices have fallen 25 cents per pound in the past three weeks, as of October 27, 2008. Feedstock prices dropped from peak levels faster than ethylene prices during the latter half of the third quarter, causing ethylene margins to improve. Producers are uncertain about the level of demand for ethylene during the ongoing financial crisis.
