ABSTRACT
The article reports on the invention of magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) by doctors at the Mayo Clinic which is designed to determine liver fibrosis with high accuracy, helping to eliminate the need for biopsies. It explains in detail the theory behind MRE. Findings of a study led by Jayant Talwalker, a Mayo Clinic hepatologist, are highlighted. Also noted are the drawbacks of liver biopsies.
