ABSTRACT
The article discusses the concept of en route radar surveillance, which many pilots and controllers refer to as flight following. It is noted that a visual flight rule (VFR) pilot flying within radar coverage outside of Class D or higher airspace can call air traffic control (ATC) and ATC receive such service. Among the limitations of flight following is the fact that many areas of Canada that are covered by ATC radar can only see aircraft with transponders.
