ABSTRACT
The article offers tips for succession planning. When calculating replacement costs, include time to recruit, costs of advertising, interviewers' time, psychometric testing, induction time and on-the-job learning. Highlight the positions which, if left vacant, will have a detrimental impact on the organization. Measuring the value of the relationship and identifying a suitable time to introduce a successor needs to be part of the planning.
