The article reports on an announcement by DHL Express that it has hired 83% of senior managers internally in the past year due to a focus on succession planning, as of October 2008. The firm has set up the RAPID employee database, which allows them to be promoted temporarily to a more senior role when staff members go on holiday or sabbatical, if they meet the necessary criteria. Employees may also be sent to another country for a period to learn about specific aspects of a different job.
