ABSTRACT

The article reports on the need for the British travel sector to establish its own standards for carbon offsetting to counter the cowboys being drawn into the sector, according to the head of Fleet Street Travel. Mike Hare told the Guild of Travel Management Companies' conference in Doha, Qatar about the need to create an industry-wide standard. He criticized existing carbon-offset arrangements after comparing the charges of a range of companies for offsetting a return London-New York flight. He also questioned why airfreight firms were not offsetting.
