ABSTRACT
The article reports on a net loss of 888.12 crore posted by Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (HPCL) for the quarter ended June 30, 2008, an increase of 922% as compared to a net loss of 86.93 crore in the corresponding quarter of 2007. It cites that sales for the quarter increased 57% at 34,917.20 crore as compared to 22,216.13 crore. According to R. Sreesankar of IL&FS Investsmart, the high crude oil prices is the major factor for the firm to report losses.
