ABSTRACT
The article reports that under continued pressure from declining consumer demand and a stalled economy, apparel and textile imports to the U.S. dropped in July 2008 for the fifth consecutive month. According to the Commerce Department, the volume of apparel and textile imports declined 4.4 percent in July 2008, as compared to that in 2007, to 4.58 billion square meter equivalents. It states that the overall trade deficit widened to $62.2 billion in July 2008 from $58.8 billion in June 2008.
