ABSTRACT
The article profiles Annie Lindsay, an elderly dance teacher who started giving workshops to express joy and relieve pain. For 37 years, she has taught ballet, jazz and modern dance at Ramsay High School on the south side of Alabama's Birmingham, the only school in the city with a dance program. Lindsay vividly remembers teaching her first dance class at Ramsay in 1970, when it was a predominantly White school.
