The article reports on the free availability of reusable takeout containers, called GustieWare, for all students at Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota. When the dining services department implemented an à la carte/declining balance meal plan, the unintended consequence or outcome of that program was that it allowed for meal portability, according to foodservice director Steve Kjellgren. His best advice for other operators looking to adopt a similar program is to be sure of the operation's need for the initiative.
