ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the attempt of the State of Alabama in attaining statewide interoperability. The main problem that many states are confronting is communications as they were using different legal communications systems. Jim Walker, director of the Alabama Department of Homeland Security, said that communicating with first responders and public-safety agencies is one of the competencies to be gained. Since they have been working to extend the new wide area interoperability system (WAIS) by Raytheon's JPS Communications, development was seen.
