ABSTRACT
The article reports on the average rate of a fixed-rate loan in the U.S. Following the government takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in September 2008 there has been a drop in the rates for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages. The rate dropped by 42 basis points and the monthly principal and interest rate payment on a $200,000 loan is more than $76 lower than in August.
