ABSTRACT
The article reports on the challenges facing ranch owners with the continued growth of real estate taxes in Colorado. It reveals that the increase in the value of land which is accompanied by the growth of taxes collected by the government offers burden to ranchers encouraging them to sell their property. It provides a discussion how Diane Holly, owner of the Overlook Ranch in Stamboate Springs, has dealt with the challenges posed by increasing estate taxes. It reveals that the tax exemption imposed by the government to ranch owners and the conservation easements provided on private lands still fail to address the challenges of rising real estate taxes.
