The article reports on the impact of decommissioning two U.S. F/A - 18 fighter plane squadrons. It states that Marine Corps decommissioned one F/A-18D squadron in 2007 and another F/A-18C in 2008, which caused a shortfall to the U.S. Navy. The Department of Navy will be short by 41 F/A-18D aircraft in two years, which will cause a great impact to the Corps' ability to continue to fill its remaining five F/A-18D squadrons. In addition, the shortfall of squadron will continue until 2014 .
