ABSTRACT
The article reports on the decision of the government of Sweden to lift the national ban on the use of the flame-retardant Decabromodiphenyl ether (Deca-BDE) in furniture, textiles and electronic cables. It states that the Swedish government lifted the national prohibition on May 8, 2008 when it has faced with a legal challenge from the European Union (EU) officials. In connection, the ten-year EU risk assessment for the chemical did not identify any risks justifying restrictions on the fireproofing agents.
