The article focuses on the growing demand for 4x4 light armored vehicle capable of carrying from two to six persons for combat use, combat support and combat service support units. It is noted that the vehicles often replaced unarmored light utility vehicles. The U.S. Department of Defense decided to procure add-on armor package to its AM General Humvee as U.S. forces faced with escalating casualties caused by improvised explosive devices (IED) in Iraq. Other light armored vehicles offered in the market include the Cobra from Otokar.
