ABSTRACT
The article reports on the conservation efforts of supermarkets in response to high gasoline prices in the U.S. in 2008. The entry notes that Fresh & Easy supermarket uses a hybrid freezer for its delivery transport which allows different levels of refrigeration for a variety of foods and saves diesel fuel. It cites that Albertsons and Lucky stores monitor their tractors for idle-ignition shut-off and driving speed. Also mentioned is Wal Mart's strategy of negotiating lower prices from its suppliers to keep customers coming back.
