ABSTRACT
The article presents the highlights of the 2008 Ralph Stanley Bluegrass Festival and offers information on the Heritage Music Trail or the Crooked Road in Virginia. The Bristol town along the Crooked Roads is widely known as the birthplace of country music due to the early recording sessions that took place there. The three-day bluegrass music festival incorporated the wedding celebration for Stanley's banjo player Steve Sparkman. Performers included Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, who were booked to play twice on the final day of the festival.
