ABSTRACT
The article reports that Barnett's operators XTO Energy Inc. and Chesapeake Energy Corp. have announced their business debuts in Louisiana's Haynesville Shale, which runs through about eight north-western Louisiana parishes in 2008. On June 10, XTO announced its agreement to purchase Dallas, Texas-based Hunt Petroleum for about $4.2 billion. In the acquisition of Hunt, XTO will purchase properties in East Texas, central and northern Louisiana, the Haynesville Shale, and along the Gulf Coast of Texas and Louisiana.
