ABSTRACT
The article reports on results of a study of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) in children up to 5 years of age in Poland. A description of the experimental set-up and measurement method is presented. The study showed 29 cases of meningitis and 105 non-meningitis. During the study period, one child with IPD died due to severe meningitis. Also, 26 invasive isolates of Staphylococcus pneumoniae were obtained for serotyping and antibiotic susceptibility testing. The study indicated a reduction in the incidence of the disease caused by vaccine-related serotypes in Poland.
