ABSTRACT
The article presents updates on the business operation of Tata Chemicals Ltd. in India. For 2008, the company reported an almost 114 percent increase in net profit or to Rupees (Rs) 949 crore from Rs 444 crore while its standalone net sales rose 2 percent or to Rs 4,075 crore from Rs 3,985 crore due to an increase in raw material and fuel cost. Tata Chemicals, through its international subsidiaries, acquired 100 percent equity interest from U.S.-based natural soda ash manufacturing company General Chemicals Industrial Products Inc.
