ABSTRACT
The author focuses on the relationship between joints and product liability. He states that the failure of the joint is the most likely cause of product failure in mechanical systems. He notes the importance of taking oscillating loads into consideration when they are present as 80% to 95% of structural failures occur through a fatigue mechanism. He also offers tips on understanding joint behavior during assembly, including bolted joints.

This paper deals with assessment of glulam twinned columns to beam circular bolted connection. This kind of connection is used for embedded assembly. Because of the moisture content variations, cracks often occur in the direction parallel to the grain. The aim of the study is to understand the...

This study is concerned with the development of a fracture criterion for the impact fracture of jointed steel plates of a bolted joint used in a car body. For the accurate prediction of crash characteristics of car bodies by computer-aided engineering (CAE), it is also necessary to examine the...

The article focuses on the use of torque control as a practical means of determining the correct assembly of a product joined by threaded fasteners. According to the author, it is important that the correct fasteners are applied properly to guarantee product quality and that torque control can...

The vibrations of elastic bodies with closing cracks are essentially nonlinear. As a specific feature of these vibrations, we can mention the manifestation of so-called nonlinear effects, in particular, sub- and superharmonic resonances and the nonlinearity of vibrations at these resonances. We...

The investigation of the effects of cracks or similar weaknesses on the load carrying capacity of structural elements such as columns, beams and shells is an important problem in civil, mechanical and aerospace engineering. In this paper, the buckling of slender prismatic circular columns with...
