ABSTRACT
This section offers news briefs related to the economy of Latvia, as of September 2008. Tensions between Latvia and Russia regarding the rights of the Russian-speaking minorities resident in Latvia is expected to remain elevated through the medium term. Ratings agency Fitch has affirmed the BBB+ rating of Latvia due to the sharp slowdown in growth in the first quarter of 2008. A law against money laundering and terrorist financing has been passed by the Latvian Saeima.
