ABSTRACT
This section offers news briefs on the economy of the Czech Republic, as of September 2008. The Senate is working on a bill that would introduce direct elections for the presidency in the place of the current indirect election through parliament. The finance ministry has amended its economic forecasts for 2008 and 2009 due to the reduction in the 2008 trade surplus forecast. Negotiations with the U.S. on Czech passport holders being granted visa-waver status are in progress.
