The article discusses the active role of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in mapping technology to fire departments. It cites that Sanborn has made the first effort to make maps for fire service, the maps are hand drawn and detailed to aid identify fire problem of community. It states that recent mapping are immensely superior as the turn of century technology however only few departments has access. The five critical categories of fire departments to the GIS system are presented.
