ABSTRACT
The article reports on the prevalence of violence against foreigners in South Africa. It states that government officials still cannot figure out what sparked the violence, where most of its victims are Zimbabweans trying to make a living. However, sociologists and other investigators agree that, while the growing numbers of foreigners might have been the fuse of the violence, the explosive charge is a build-up of squalid living conditions and joblessness that are the daily fare in ghetto life.
