High BP in childhood diabetes predictive

June 2008
Cardiology Today;Jun2008, Vol. 11 Issue 6, p20
The article reports that a study from Germany showed that hypertensive children have elevated blood pressure (BP) in adolescence and young adulthood. In the study, there are BP values greater than 97th percentile among 4% of the younger age groups and 13.9% of the postpubertal participants with type 1 diabetes. The researchers note that the diagnosis of hypertension in children with type 1 diabetes should be the focus and that further studies are needed to assess the efficacy of early interventions.
