ABSTRACT
The article examines the issues that have affected Northern Irish human resource (HR) practice and discovers its role in achieving peace. Joe Stewart, former personnel director at the Harland and Wolff (H&W) shipyards in east Belfast says that he felt threatened when some National Front posters appeared in a workshop. It notes stories of how Stewart, now HR director of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, fought battles against sectarianism. INSETS: Transforming HR in the civil service;Murder in the shipyard.
