ABSTRACT

The article discusses the impact of the legal limits on greenhouse-gas emissions, also called the cap-and-trade system. Cap-and-trade is defined as a situation where governments establish a national ceiling on carbon emissions, which then gets lowered every year. Companies lower their emissions, trading their carbon savings with other companies. Topics include carbon offsets and carbon forestry. Also discussed is a list of U.S. companies who have created a voluntary carbon-offset market in the U.S. including GE and Shell.
