ABSTRACT
The article argues that the narrow focus on the Supreme Court law clerk has led to a failure to examine the critical role that federal district law clerks play in the federal judiciary and looks at the criteria used to select federal district court law clerks and the corresponding job duties assigned to them. The research showed further proof of the importance of performance-based factors, such as law school class ranking, in the selection process for short-term clerks. The importance of candidate personality in the selection process is also emphasized.
