ABSTRACT
The article reports that the U.S. Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology announced that it will focus on the adoption and use of health information technology (IT) for better patient care and public health protections. The agency's comprehensive plan for advancing health IT includes engaging stakeholders and ensuring that efforts focus on health care consumers. Barriers to adoption of health IT systems that share medical records with other providers are listed.
