The article reports that Gardner, Massachusetts-based heirloom furniture producer Nichols & Stone will close its factory in North Carolina after 151 years of operation. According to the firm's president Carlton E. Nichols, economic conditions have made it difficult for the firm to compete. The Gardner plant produced dining room, occasional and bedroom furniture that accounted for 70 percent of the firm's total sales.
