ABSTRACT
The article provides an economic outlook for Slovakia through 2009. The Convergence Report May 2008 by the European Central Bank (ECB) gave a positive recommendation on Slovakia's bid to adopt the euro on January 1, 2009. The report assesses Slovakia as having met the Maastricht convergence criteria on inflation, the budget deficit, currency stability, interest rates and government debt. The country's upside risks for inflation in 2008 and 2009 are also reported.
