ABSTRACT
The article describes carnelian/agate beads. Carnelian, agate and other minerals of the chalcedony group are only regarded as semi-precious in contemporary use, but they were among the precious gemstones of jewelry in antiquity. The Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, Illinois has a good exhibition of carnelian/agate artifacts.
