ABSTRACT
The article discusses the technologies and considerations needed to power light emitting diode (LED) backlights in small-format liquid crystal displays (LCDs). These technologies include DC/DC and switched capacitor converters. The switched capacitor voltage regulator is ideal for applications that require low cost and small solution size. The inductive boost solution consumes lowest power over the entire supply voltage range. Furthermore, the input power consumption must be considered in brightness level.
