ABSTRACT
The article discusses the philanthropic work of the American John J. Wood to bring libraries to rural Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Sri Lanka beginning in 1998. Wood involved the entire community in planning, partial financing, and building of the library facilities and schools so as to create stakeholders, as well as to avoid endemic corruption.
