ABSTRACT
In this article, the author explores at the role of women in business in Edinburgh, Scotland, in the 16th century. The author demonstrates that testaments can be used to explore the role women played in the Scottish economy. She investigates testaments written between 1560 to 1600 that fit into two categories: testaments testamentar and testaments dative. The author particularly examines the involvement of women in cloth-selling, which was the most lucrative business in Edinburgh during the period.
