ABSTRACT
The article deals with NexBio Inc.'s approach to sialic acids. These acids are part of the glycoproteins on the cell surface that identify which cells a flu virus will bind to and how easily it can be spread from one victim to the next. The company's researchers believe that by targeting the host, it may be difficult to develop resistance to the compound than has been the case within other classes of antiviral agents that target the virus directly.
